Patient Access

Care Orchestrator allows administrators to customize care team assignments.

Patient Access for External Clinical Users

When granting patient access to an external care team member, you may want to also grant access to other users in that care team member’s organization.  Care Orchestrator provides an option to enable this additional patient access automatically.

  1. Click Administration, Settings, and Customization.

  2. Enable the Patient Access feature by clicking I understand that when I give patient record access to a single physician in Care Orchestrator, I agree to also allow access to  the patient record by any clinical users within the physician’s locations. This will provide patient access to all external clinical users in the same organization as an external care team member which has already been granted explicit access.

Note: This feature can be enabled or disabled at any time.  When disabled, only care team members explicitly assigned will have access to patient data.

Access may also be granted to implicitly authorize external organizations for sharing patient records.

  1. Click Administration, Settings, and Customization.

  2. Enable implicit authorization by clicking Authorize assigned external care team user with the selected patient access, when the organization is not explicitly authorized.   Patient Access drop-down is required when enabled. Drop-down is disabled when toggle is disabled.

Note:  Toggle disabled by default.

Note:  If the organization  level setting to bypass authorization is disabled, the external authorizations in place are not impacted.

Patient Transfer and Duplicate Patients

When an internal duplicate match is not identified an external duplicate match will be performed.  If a match is identified, a message will indicate the match. If the matching patient's organization permissions are enabled to allow for patient transfer, the button Transfer Patient will appear and allows the patient to be transferred to the users organization.

To enable patient transfer to authorized organizations via an external duplicate patient match:

1. Click Administration, Settings, and Customization.

2. Enable Patient Transfer by clicking Allow patient transfer to authorized organizations via external duplicate patient match.

Temporary SD Card Download Access

To grant temporary card download access to an external user that is not an assigned or authorized care team member for the patient:

  1. Click Administration, Settings, and Customization.

  2. Enable temporary SD card download access by clicking I agree to permit temporary access to a patient record by a physician through an SD Card download in Care Orchestrator, where the physician isn’t associated to the patient. If enabled, clinical users can download SD card data for a patient they're not assigned to. To proceed, user must acknowledge the following message: By searching for patients, I acknowledge that I'm authorized to access patient records pursuant to my company's business associate agreement. In accordance with HIPAA guidelines, all transactions are logged.

Note: This feature can be enabled or disabled at any time. When disabled, only users assigned as care team members will have access to patient data via SD Card downloads.
